Center for Service Studies
Center for Service Studies (CSS) was established in 1993. It is formed by a number of researchers from Roskilde University, Denmark. The center has its own Phd program and posess a large network to managers and other practitioners from the service sectors. CSS participates in a number of Danish and international research projects in which focus is targeted the research of public and private service activities.
Mission of CSS
The mission of CSS is to investigate service activities in companies and public organisations, empirically and theoretically. The research aims at being relevant for society, the businesses as well as for the users. The goals of CSS are furthermore defined as:
- To create co-operation between Danish and foreign service researchers.
- To distribute knowledge about service research to other research institutions and to the public.
- To conduct research of relevance for service companies.

- Working conditions and employment in services
- Service marketing and trade
- IT and e-commerce in service
- E-services
- National and international developments in service sectors frem an economic and geographic approach
- The post-industrial society's development towards information and service societies
- The localisation of services and its influence on regional development
- Competences and education in services businesses.

In Denmark services generate 70% of the gross national product and of the country's employment. Most Danish companies are service companies. More than 20% of the world trade is trade with services. Most public sectors provide services.
